Asian Breeze

It located on Ratchada Road. This bridge was named by a king of the town when celebrating coronation of King Rama 5. It has a long history because it could pass through the World War I and II without any damaged. Originally, it was iron-wood bridge, but was renovated to be concrete bridge in March 1917 for durability.

นับเวลาย้อนหลังไปช่วง 80 ปีที่แล้ว สมัยของเจ้าบุญวาทย์วงศ์มานิตซึ่งตรงกับสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 การคมนาคมขนส่งทางรถยนต์ยังพัฒนาไม่ถึงนครลำปาง รถม้าเป็นพาหนะชนิดเดียวที่ได้รับความนิยมในการเดินทางสูงสุดและสามารถใช้บรรทุกของหรือสินค้า รถม้าคันแรกได้ถูกซื้อมาจากกรุงเทพฯ


ขณะนั้นทางกรุงเทพฯ มีรถยนต์ใช้มากขึ้น บทบาทของรถม้าลากในกรุงเทพฯ จึงลดน้อยลง รถม้าจึงได้ถูกนำมาใช้ที่นครลำปางและยังได้กระจายไปสู่เมืองหลักของภาคต่างๆ ได้แก่ นครราชสีมาของอีสาน นครศรีธรรมราชของภาคใต้ นครเชียงใหม่ เมืองเชียงราย เมืองแพร่ เมืองน่าน เมืองแม่ฮ่องสอนของทางภาคเหนือ แต่ด้วยเหตุใดไม่ปรากฏ ผู้ประกอบการรถม้าในเมืองดังกล่าวจึงเลิกกิจการไป คงเหลือแต่เฉพาะจังหวัดลำปางแห่งเดียวที่ยังคงใช้รถม้าอยู่ตราบจนกระทั่งทุกวันนี้

Lampang is the only province in Thailand still retaining horse-drawn carriages as a means of transport within city limit. Visitors can hire such vehicles to tour places such as markets, traditional houses along the river bank and the numerous temples in town.

History of horse-carriage was back 80 years ago (during King Rama 4 period). At that time, the first horse-carriage was brought to Bangkok. Later on, motor car became more popular and most of people preferred to use it. Therefore, the horse-carriage was moved to Lampang and other provinces. Surprisingly, Lampang is only one province that people still use it until now.

At present, there are about 70 horse-carriages in Lampang serving all night and day. There are 3 rates for fee: 150 baht for small round trip around the city, 250 baht for big round trip around the city, and 300 baht/hr for renting. You can find the horse-carriage at old Sala Klan during 6 am. – 4 pm. and at Tip Chan Lampang hotel, Vieng Lakor hotel, and Lampang Vieng Thong hotel during 6 am. – 11 pm.
